What to wear
Sailing is a water sport so you should expect to get wet! Whilst you may not want to immediately purchase sailing kit, you will be wading up to your knees to launch and recover the boats and there may be spray from waves.
Old trainers and a waterproof jacket are essential. The club can provide personal floatation devices, the Club require all dinghy sailors to wear one when sailing. Quick drying athletic clothing works well but cotton is not advised. Please bring a dry change of clothes for afterwards.
You will be handling wet ropes which are tough on your hands. Grippy gardening gloves are a good initial substitute for proper sailing gloves.
In time you may want to buy a wetsuit (or drysuit for colder weather), sailing wet shoes, gloves, floatation device and a spray jacket to keep warm. It can get quite cool when the wind blows, and if you capsize you will want some waterproof gear such as a wetsuit to keep you warm.
